Blog 10

From my classmates presentations, ive learned a number of different thing. For example, Captain hook probably wasnt a real person but a story figure made up by an author. Also, that Blackbeard was so feared that he held up a whole pier for a number of days. What worked in these presentations was the fact that everyone had a different topic so it kept in exciting and interesting. What didnt really work was the fact that noone really used the 6x6 method we were taught the day prior. I think my project was decent compared to my classmates but i dont think i was the best whatsoever.

Guns, Swords, and Cannons, oh my!

Its no secret that pirates used all sorts of weaponry, especially Blackbeard the pirate. Blackbeard was known for owning two ships, Queen Anne's Revenge, and Adventure. During a not totally recent, but recent enough, finding of what is to be believed as Blackbeard's QAR, they also unearthed a multitude of ancient pirate weaponry. This included Cannons which were used to shoot at other ships in the water, personal fire arms of the crew along with ammunition, and a multitude of scraped parts from different types of weaponry. Pretty cool, right? I personally find firearms and weapons of destruction rather interesting and below I'm going to insert a couple pictures from what was found of the wreckage as well as what people believe what the QAR looked like...

pirate torture

Pirates had their own way of getting what they wanted. These ways, for the most part, involved extremely violent behavior. Pirates often used torture as a way to get the most amount of loot they could from ships they had taken over or raided. On the off hand that there was a captain who enjoyed doing the torture, a sadist if you will, they tortured enemies solely for the fun of it. Personally, this type of behavior does not sit well with me. Doing unimaginable things to humans just for a little extra loot and maybe some enjoyment is just not the way people should go about things. In addition, if a crew member steals any loot whatsoever from the crew, or if they flee from battle, they were to be marooned. Basically, they leave a member, or group of individuals, on an island away from any mainland whatsoever, to punish them. The Crew never returns for them and they are to be stranded and, as the pirate code states, "are sure to encounter hardships". This way of dealing with a bad crew or some particular members of the crew is rather sinister but not as sinister as what they put their enemies through. Nevertheless, i do not agree with any of their behaviors for they are terroristic and sadistic however you look at it.

meeting a female pirate

In the golden age of piracy, there were not many female pirates at all. however, if you were to come in contact with a female pirate, it would definitely be a different experience. The woman would not be the typical female you think of right off the bat. She would usually be dressed in mens clothing, carrying a pistol and a saber ready to cut any ones throat in order to get some loot. They were violent humans and feared very little. They were brave, daring, and perhaps very beautiful. If you were an enemy to this woman you had better have better sword skills than her because she gives no mercy and is extremely malicious.

captain morgan fact or fiction

between the two novels we are reading, under the black flag and bucaneers and pirates, there are lots of different ways the pirate captain morgan is depicted. For example, in the bucaneers book, they go on and on about the early life of captain morgan, however in the site of resources e were given, one of the sources,  claims that no one really knew morgans early life.

SIR HENRY MORGAN'S STEAL

henry morgans background and life acheivment

On January 28, 1671, a man by the name of Sir Henry Morgan, with help of an entire crew of people, raided and conquered an entire city. what city? Panama city. A Rather quick and bloody battle occurred on the half built and impromptu fort San Geronimo (Cordingly 46). they had one specific plan; to conquer the city with whatever force necessary.
The crew encountered a decent amount of resistance but to no avail. Henry's crew was too much for the guards of the fort and were overtaken. after about a day and a half, with some assistance from henrys men, the rest of the forts surrendered and the town of panama city was theirs.
After the dust settled and negotiations were brought about, Henry and his men walked away with about 250,000 pesos worth of loot (Cordingly 47). That included silver plate, silver coins, gold coins and gold and silver bars all added up to be the previous estimated amount.
Henry, despite being a criminal for what he did, was treated as a hero at home and was welcomed with parties, booze, and women. He was never imprisoned but he had to spend 2 years in London solely waiting on his fate (Cordingly 54). Henry received no real punishment and was free to see whomever he pleased and eventually was able to be integrate back into London society.
henrys death was not so glamorous. he was not hanged, he was not but to a firing squad, nothing of those sorts. he was seeking medical help for a illness he had and even with the help from the doctor, he died soon after his treatment (Cordingly 55).

ABOUT ME

What's up! full name is Bryson Travis Hayes, I am 20 years old, and I am an absolute gym nut. I spend most of my days mostly lifting weights, doing cardio and sleeping. When I'm away from the gym I play guitar for hours on end and try my best to read but usually the second one doesn't work out. I am an only child, so I like to be by myself a lot, but I don't mind company whatsoever.
